Rathnure Rebel shows his true colours
He had a few issues and it took us a while to get him back last season and it was a bit of a rush the whole way through with him,. He was bought after he won his point to point at Dromahane and he beat Three Musketeers, who is a good horse. I happened to be there as Nina (Carberry) was riding Three Musketeers and he (Rathnure Rebel) actually fell at the first and was down on all fours. However he got back up again - he ran away the whole way in the three mile race and still won - I've never seen the like of it! . That's the first thing he's done right for me so hopefully it's onwards and upwards now and I'd say three miles would suit him well and he could go to Cork for a novice hurdle next.
Veinard has Russell back on a winner
He did his job nicely today, everyone's happy and we'll find another similar race next,. While it wasn't the strongest race in the world it's nice to get Davy back on a winner and that's his first day back in Ireland (following his 17 day suspension). We sent him off on a winner and brought him back on one and he comes in to us the odd morning and rides an awful lot of winners for us - it's good to have him on our side whenever we can get him.
16 and a half to one brace for Russell
He deserved a bit of luck and we're delighted. He ran well at Cheltenham the last day (3rd on Saturday) but this makes up for it (his unlucky summer),.
Lander crashes Out to give big prize to Alelchi
We had fortune on our side and he was probably jumping a bit slow for that type of contest but he jumped safe and it paid off in the end,. The rain probably hadn't soaked into it yet being the first race on the track and everything played into his hands. We might go out in trip with him. That was nearly our last race and we were thinking about going the cross-country route but possibly the Aintree National is an option next year. After his run in Italy we were happy he'd stay and he wants further than that (today's 2m4f) trip - the reason we were going cross-country was to get better ground on those tracks. Once the ground turns we won't have much for him.
Lady makes it 2 at Clonmel for Mullins/Walsh
We had set out to make it and then she started jumping left and wasn't happy. It took her a long time to warm up and come in her own time and he let her pop away and grow in confidence. He came and quickened it when it needed to be quickened. I don't know what our plan is now - she probably has done more than we expected her to do and we'll see whether we go further with her or wait until the spring. I hate stopping with them when they are winning and if we can find another mares race, we will run.
Hard on the layers on Clonmel's big day
25/1 Clonmel hat-trick for Mullins and Walsh
He timed it very well but he might have been a bit fortunate. She picked up really well but who knows what would have happened if Vigil hadn't fallen,. It was a nice surprise and we'll have to find a winners' of two next - it's a big improvement from anything she has shown so far- we gave her a break and obviously it suited her.
