French import Tian Shan made a successful debut for new connections after being bought for 40,000 sterling at Doncaster.
Pat Smullen dictated matters from the front and the 4yo son of Barathea travelled well in blinkers, comfortably fending off the challenge of Vincenzio Galilei from the furlong pole. The Heritage Stakes at Leopardstown is the next port of call for the winner, and is viewed as a nice dual purpose horse by Dermot Weld.
Vincenzio Galilei didn't give Johnny Murtagh the easiest of rides with an awkward head carriage, and he accepted defeat in the closing stages. He's always been held in high regard by Ger Lyons and had plenty to do here on official figures with the winner. A couple of furlongs extra would suit him better and he still looks reasonably treated off a mark of 91, providing the handicapper is not too harsh on him for this.
Tis Mighty was the only other one to be involved at any stage, finding no extra from well over a furlong out. Tarus trailed throughout but still came home a bit better than Divine Design.
