He is a really big part of the team and he deserves all the credit for this. Today was the plan. We were worried it might come a bit soon after the last day. He stays, jumps and likes soft ground. We'll see what Noel [O'Brien, handicapper] does with him. We might aim him at a novice handicap at Navan that Panther Claw won last year. Paul Nolan, trainer
The Stewards interviewed J.P. Holly, rider of Coole Avenue, concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were of the opinion that the rider was in breach of Regulation 10 (4) in that he had failed to give his mount sufficient time to respond. Having taken his previous record in this regard into account, they cautioned him concerning his future responsibilities in this regard. The Stewards requested a report from Thomas Cooper, trainer as to the apparent improvement in form of Coole Avenue, placed second, as compared with its recent form. Mr Cooper reported that there were a number of contributing factors to todays improved performance. He stated tha this charge had fallen on his first three chases and at Navan he missed fences early on but gained in confidence as he progressed and stayed on well. He further added that at Fairyhouse the horse disappointed having jumped off in contention but missed the first two fences. He felt that a combination of todays heavy ground, the application of a visor and a longer trip had his opinion brought about any apparent improvement in form. Having considered the report the Stewards noted the explanation offered.
