The winner, Solo Saxophone (IRE), appeared to show improved form compared with its previous run at Chester on 6 May 2022 where the gelding finished last of fourteen, beaten by 34¼ lengths on Good ground.
The representative of Alex Hales’ explanation that Solo Saxophone (IRE) appreciated the return to hurdling and benefited from the easier ground of Good to Soft on this occasion, was noted.
The performance of PERCY’S WORD, which started favourite and finished fourth, beaten by 10¾ lengths, was considered.
It was noted that the representative of Dan Skelton could offer no explanation for the gelding’s performance on this occasion and the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of PERCY’S WORD, during routine testing, failed to reveal any abnormalities.
