Patient Smullen proves market wrong
I think they went very fast early on. Pat was wise to take his time. She came home nicely and she handled the conditions. We'll leave her off now and go for a Group race in August.
Ciara makes it look so easy
I was a bit worried about the ground and she'll go for the Stillorgan Handicap at Leopardstown now. Hopefully we'll be able to get a bit of black-type with her. She's an improving filly and she's very game.
Sharestan too classy in the Celebration
He's good over a mile. He won over a mile and two here recently but he didn't really stay in the heavy ground. He's adaptable ground-wise and he may get a mile and a quarter on fast ground. On soft to heavy a mile is no worry to him and he is a horse that has the potential to step-up in grade. He has to prove that but he went some way to doing that today. We thought that he was a horse that could step-up into the mid-teens (in the ratings) and once you get to that level you have more options.
More joy for Foley on Bold Thady Quill
Ground is less important now than it used to be for him. He did prefer it fast, but he handles as ease well now. He should be able to win a handicap somewhere along the way.
Huge win for Cleere & Slattery
The owners asked me six months ago if he could run on Derby Day. They had a table booked today for one of their son's birthdays. He was 5Ibs out of the handicap but he had to run. I thought the ground was too soft for him but I would have fancied him on good ground. I always thought he'd go on grass . I never thought that would be a problem.
Great success for Billy Lee on Probably
The flat track here helped, though he hit a flat spot a furlong out. He's a nice horse and he'll get a mile. He's always shown plenty at home. He's a very good looking horse with plenty of size and scope. He stays well and Billy gave him a very good ride, he's a very under-rated rider. Seven furlongs or a mile will be right up his street later in the year. He's a good, tough, solid, honest sort. He'll be a better three-year-old, he's a big horse. He's a good actioned horse and he'd prefer better ground.
Rousing conclusion to the Sapphire Stakes
Camelot shows big heart to win the Derby
He's a very very good horse because he hated the ground. He's got a big heart and he tried very hard. He got himself out of a hole because he was hating the ground. He travelled well and he was nice and relaxed. It's testament to the horse that he is, to win there, and he showed how big a heart he has . he hated the ground . and still he's gone and won a big race quite easy. I was worried turning-in, it's testing, sticky ground, they are not getting through it - it's the opposite of what he likes. The wheels were spinning in that ground and he would have won considerably easier if the ground was much nicer.
