Trainer Ken Condon said of Bold Thady Quill in a stable tour back in May: "Ground is less important now than it used to be for him. He did prefer it fast, but he handles as ease well now. He should be able to win a handicap somewhere along the way."
Well a premier handicap no doubt will go down well with the Ridge Manor Stables handler and his wife Mrs Pauline Condon as Shane Foley kept up his dream weekend (his fourth of the Festival) by getting Bold Thady Quill home in the Dubai Duty Free Finest Surprise Handicap at the Curragh. Spa's Dancer the runner-up, opened the door for Bold Thady Quill by hanging to his left and ultimately three parts of a length separated them at the line.
An understandably happy Condon said in the aftermath: "It's great to be standing here on Derby Day.
"He's a real favourite of ours, he's a very good lead horse and he's been very consistent on his last few runs.
"We weren't sure coming here given that he was running off the highest rating he's ever had.
"We chanced him on the slow ground and he's handled it. We're delighted that he's won a good prize.
"He could now go for the Stillorgan Handicap at Leopardstown in a few weeks time." (GC & EM)
