Major Jumbo (GB), drawn 6, ducked its head and tried to dive under the front of the stalls at the same time as the start was effected.

Approaching 3½ furlongs out, a free running Lihou (GB), placed fourth, lugged left-handed momentarily tightening up First Company (IRE), unplaced, which was hanging right-handed independently, and resulted in First Company (IRE) losing its pitch on that runner's inside, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of Lihou (GB).
Following the race, Callum Rodriguez reported that Militia (GB), placed third, slipped leaving the stalls and was slowly away.
