A furlong down I said 'this is going to be some battle'. The other horse was a half length in front at that stage but I knew this lad would stay. He's bred to stay. I'd like to put him over a bit further next time. He has to have soft ground as he hasn't great wheels under him. If the ground was soft at Punchestown there is a 3m6f race and he'd definitely go there. We're delighted with that. He's coming along, the handicapper wasn't easy on him early on. The Raceday Stewards granted a request from Sean O O' Brien, trainer, of The Gradual Slope (IRE), for an additional 10 minutes to present the animal for identification by an IHRB Official as provided for under the provisions of Rule 90(i)
The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer examined Paul Marvel (FR), trained by W.P. Mullins, at the request of the Raceday Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal.
An extended handicap steeplechase for five years old and upwards that have not won a steeplechase before 30th April 2023, other than one hunters steeplechase within the previous two National Hunt seasons that are EBF eligible and that have run at least three times in steeplechases up to and including 19th March 2024 Penalties - Winner of a steeplechase or steeplechases after calculation of the handicap shall carry any penalty or penalties which may be allotted by the Handicapper.
