The Veterinary Officer reported that King Golan (IRE), trained by Kenny Johnson, appeared to show evidence of possible administration of a substance around its mouth.
The Trainer, two of his employees, the Veterinary Officer and an Equine Welfare and Integrity Officer were interviewed.
The Equine Welfare and Integrity Officer reported that following a subsequent kit search a bottle of Airways Solution – a respiratory supplement – was found in the kitbag.
Johnson explained that the Airways Solution had inadvertently been left in the kitbag which was used for racecourse gallops recently at Newcastle during a period where there had been no jump racing.
His explanation was noted.
Being satisfied that the gelding had received only normal food and water by mouth on the day of racing, the Stewards allowed King Golan (IRE) to run and ordered the gelding to be routine tested.
They further confiscated the substance, ordered that it should be tested and a report was forwarded to the Head Office of the British Horseracing Authority for further consideration.
Approaching the last fence, Our Uncle Pat (IRE), placed second, hung left inconveniencing the winner, King Golan (IRE), but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved.
