The Stewards enquired into an incident inside the final furlong involving Gathering Power, ridden by F. Lynch, placed first, Wexford Opera, ridden by K.J. Manning, placed fifth and Seal Rock (GB), ridden by C.D. Hayes, placed second. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that the incident was accidental and took no further action. J.P. O'Brien, rider of Masai, trained by A.P.O'Brien, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount was short of room momentarily in the final furlong.
An extended handicap for three yrs old and upwards (95 = 9st 10lb) Weights - Top weight in the original handicap shall not; be less than 9st 10lb Penalties - (after calculation of the handicap) A winner shall carry 5lb extra for each race won. Any horse rated above 95 shall initially be treated as having that rating and the highest weight allotted shall be 9st 10lb. Subsequently, the excess over 95 in any rating shall be added to the weight allotted to that horse. (For the purpose of this note, any three year old rated above 95 shall have the applicable weight for age allowance then prevailing deducted from the horse's rating prior to the original calculation of the handicap)
