A query was raised to consider why Ian Williams was running Mancini (GB) here at Chester when his representative had previously reported that the gelding was unsuited by the tight nature of the track on its previous run here on 27 September 2020 where Mancini (GB) finished last of twelve runners, beaten by 43½ lengths.
Williams stated that with the benefit of hindsight, he felt that on that occasion the horse was feeling the effects of a long season and had required a break.
Having been off the track for 222 days since, he was happy for Mancini (GB) to take his chance today.
An enquiry was held to consider interference shortly after the start involving Mancini (GB), unplaced, ridden by Martin Dwyer; Elysian Flame (GB), placed fifth, ridden by Nathan Evans; Byron Flyer (GB), placed sixth, ridden by Tom Marquand; Postileo (IRE), placed second, ridden by Andrea Atzeni; Always Resolute (GB), unplaced, ridden by Elisha Whittington and Cleonte (IRE), unplaced, ridden by Silvestre De Sousa.
Whittington was suspended for 7 days for careless riding as she allowed her mount to drift left- handed without sufficient correction, causing considerable interference to those on her inside.
The performance of Brasca (GB), which finished last of thirteen runners, was considered.
It was noted that the representative of Ralph Beckett could offer no explanation for the performance of the gelding; the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of Brasca (GB), during routine testing, failed to reveal any abnormalities.
