Reward makes it a good start for Lyons at Dundalk
I agree with this claiming system and moving them on rather than running 0-65s for €10,000,. He's in the sales and people can buy him here, he's good value at €20,000. We've got a winner on the board, the negative is that it's not for Colin, but that's life. The positive is that the kid is after losing his 10lb claim. He's a good kid. I said to him the ambition was to try and lose the 10lb and give him plenty of experience and he's had that. The horse has done his job but he's not good enough for that owner and that's what these races are for. We are winning them and supporting them and we're getting horses moved. I couldn't speak highly enough of the system. The stigma about them is gone and trainers have accepted them. We need more of them. Lads are giving out about getting balloted out in 0-65s and maybe if we had more of these races it would serve a lot of different purposes.
2 and counting for Lyons at Dundalk
He's a half-brother to Who's Steph and it's patience, patience with him,. He had a real bad stone bruise about a week or so after he won in Gowran and we just couldn't shift it, it took forever. He's a nice person of a horse! We took our time with him and I thought he was nearly finished as I wasn't sure whether this place was going to be riding well enough for us or not. The last few weeks when we started back I said 'right that's riding well enough' so we put him in, got a mark said we'd have a look at this race and then put him away to next year. We'll let him go baby steps next year. It was a nice performance and with another winter under his belt he might just be a nice horse, he's well related.
3 from 3 at Dundalk for Lyons at 216/1
He backed up the last run, you don't know whether they will or they won't,. He loves the surface. We'll see what the handicapper does but he's more than likely finished. He's a fine big horse, we'll put him away till next year, and he could grow into nice horse next year. He's done his job for us, and for Colin, so it's nice to end on a high.
Maye rides first winner as Geological scores on 100th start
What a horse! It was brought to my attention around Laytown time that he was getting close to his 100th start,. Laytown didn't go to plan so we said we'd try and get him ready to win on his 100th start. Vanessa is local to us and has started to come in and ride work. It's worked out well. We thought her 10lb would come in handy and he's won twice before for girls so we thought we'd give it a go. That's the third jockey he's given a first winner to as well. He's some servant — he's just deadly. We'll keep him going for the winter here now and try and pick up more money. He's only seven so there is still plenty to come and we'll crack away here.
Leahy's thoughts with injured daughter after Dundalk win
I'm well pleased with that because Susan (Keane, daughter) is in hospital — she broke her back,.
Apprentice battle going down to the wire as Orr gets one back
He's probably suffered a bit in that he's been ready to run for a while but there have been so many entries up here and he's been reserve a few times,. He's a bit like Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, he's been on the bench a bit!. He got his chance today. Pat Martin rang me to say his wasn't running and then we found out ours (Dubai Rainbow) wasn't running. He did it well and he keeps the apprentice title alive for the lads which is good. He's won three here and he'll come back in maybe a month's time, we'll try and win another one.

95/1 Dundalk double for Lynam and Orr
He's had more setbacks than you could ever dream a horse could have,. He's finally come right and he did it well, I liked his attitude. I don't know how much of a race it was but he battled well and I'm delighted to get a win with him. We've had to be patient as he's a four-year-old. That surface is easier than the first day away on grass in very soft ground at Fairyhouse. There might be a bit more fun with him.
