The Book Your Christmas Party At Dundalk Handicap provided quite the story. Vanessa Maye rode her first winner on Geological who was contesting his 100th race at odds of 22/1.
Based with Jack Davison in Dunboyne, Maye soon had habitual front-runner Geological dictating the pace, and he just wasn’t for catching up the straight.
The 800 guineas wonder crossed the line with a length and a half and the same to spare over Never Back Down and All The King’s Men.
“What a horse! It was brought to my attention around Laytown time that he was getting close to his 100th start,” said English.
“Laytown didn't go to plan so we said we'd try and get him ready to win on his 100th start.
“Vanessa is local to us and has started to come in and ride work. It's worked out well.
“We thought her 10lb would come in handy and he's won twice before for girls so we thought we'd give it a go. That's the third jockey he's given a first winner to as well.
“He's some servant — he's just deadly. We'll keep him going for the winter here now and try and pick up more money.
“He's only seven so there is still plenty to come and we'll crack away here.”
