The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Sister Slew, trained by Shane Nolan, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal. The Stewards interviewed R.P. Whelan, rider of Gold Tantrum, concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were of the opinion that R.P. Whelan was in breach of R10(3)(e) by hitting his horse other than down the shoulder or on the hind quarters and consequently suspended him for 3 racedays having taken his previous record into consideration.
An extended handicap for four yrs old and upwards rated 47-65 Penalties - (after calculation of the handicap) A winner shall carry 5lb extra for each race won.
