He warmed into it, he was a little bit slow over the first couple but he’s a horse we’ve always thought a lot of and it’s nice to see him go and prove it. I was a bit worried about coming back after Cheltenham, but it didn’t make a difference. He was really good. I imagine he’ll be going in a field now and then we’ll see. He’s obviously got good size and scope so we’ll see, there are no plans at the moment. Henry De Bromhead, trainer
Permission was given for Rare Edition (IRE) to wear a red hood to post.
It was noted approaching the home bend, in a tightly packed field Hullnback (GB), which was later pulled up, lugged slightly left-handed moving No Looking Back (IRE), unplaced, onto Pembroke (GB), placed fifth, which was hampered when tightened for room on the rail but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved.
An enquiry was held into the riding of Rachael Blackmore, the rider of the winner, Inthepocket (GB), who having dropped her whip after the last hurdle, had then appeared to slap her mount down the neck with the buckle end of the reins on multiple occasions on the run to the line.
Having heard her evidence and viewed recordings of the run in, the Stewards noted Blackmore’s explanation that she had used the reins in order to keep the gelding focused and running straight, as it had been inclined to hang right-handed.
The Stewards reminded Blackmore of her responsibilities under rule D(2), that only the whip should be used to encourage the horse.
The performance of Hullnback (GB) which was pulled up, was considered.
Fergal O’Brien's explanation that the gelding made a respiratory noise was noted.
The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of Hullnback (GB) failed to reveal any abnormalities.
The performance of Found A Fifty (IRE) which started second favourite and finished eighth, beaten 31 lengths, was considered.
Gordon Elliott could offer no explanation for the gelding’s performance other than a report from Davy Russell that Found A Fifty (IRE) ran too free.
The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities.
