Menelik claims eighth win at Dundalk
it took all of Pat Smullen to get him home there! He was third at Chelmsford the last time over five and we probably should have made it on him. He did it well there tonight and I'd say if we had been drawn anywhere else, we could have been in trouble but Pat gave him a cracking ride. I think he's better over five but Pat said he stuck his head back out there tonight over the six.
'Magic' gains maiden win for Foster
I'm absolutely delighted for the filly and for the owners, the Fox family have been great supporters of mine. ‘Magic’, as we know her by, is a sister to Lily's Rainbow whom I won a Listed race with in Navan last year: she had big boots to fill and she's filled them and actually, dare I say it, I think she's better than Lily's Rainbow. There is more to her, she's stronger and bigger, and she's still growing. I think whatever she does now that she'll be better in the spring. She's a lovely filly. Tonight was the plan and we'll have to looks and see what there is now. With the fact that she is still growing she might just have a break now and let her rest on her laurels. I would hope she could be a black-type filly, and if her sister did it she can do it - I’ll tell her that!
Halford has high hopes for 'black-type horse'
he’s a nice horse, is growing away and he's still a bit on the weak side. We'll put him away now for the winter and he'll be a lovely horse to look forward to next spring. He'll probably always want a bit of nice-ish ground and it's only starting to happen for him really. He's got a very easy way of doing everything and he's just improving. He picked up well from his last run here as well. He was lame after that night as he had a drop in his foot so it was a good effort. He doesn't take a lot of work as he's light enough framed and we just kept him ticking over since. You'd have to think he's a black-type horse; he’s got the physique and the pedigree so we'll dream away.
McNamara has first Dundalk winner
Robbie said he would go very close and rang me as he's stuck in traffic. He said to just ride him whatever way you find him and he pinged the gates and we were hacking. When I let him go at the two (furlong pole) he quickened and he only really had to race for two-and-a-half. He's an ex Moyglare horse and absolutely pinged over the surface; he has some action and covered the ground really well and seemed to enjoy it. I could barely pull him up and he flew home and won easy.
Orr wins on Won
he (Oisin Orr) said he did it easy. He enjoyed himself and when he hit the front he said it was all over. He just stays galloping. We might step up in trip, he’s straight forward and we have a few options and we'll see how we go. He'll probably jump a hurdle in time but we might not run him on real winter ground but we'll keep him going and then maybe when it dries out, in February or March time, he might pop a hurdle again.
Owner/trainer/breeder wins with Lubrense
he did it well and he (Dylan Hogan) gave him a great ride. He needs to be delivered late and that's what he did.
Champion Keane scores on La Cumparsita
I thought Pat Martin's horse (Goodnite irina) was after getting it in the middle!. She (La Cumparsita) was very green on the outside and she's only learning how to race now. It's nice to get her head in front and we'll look for something similar. We'll give her a fortnight or three weeks and come back and she'll keep going for the winter.
ChampionApprentice completes D'dalk double
she's been very unlucky and last year she was second and got a bad fracture behind so we're lucky to have her back. We have a very patient owner in Alistair (Porter) and he's listened to everything I've had to say and it's worked out great. She's a good filly but the most important thing is we got a winner for an owner who has been very patient and deserves it. We can stay in 45-65 because I think that's her category and she got a peach of a ride from Oisin.
