1st ride for Meade provides Archdeacon with 1st career win Jay Archdeacon rode his first winner when getting Noel Meade’s newcomer Rosgalme (20/1) home by a nose in the concluding Irish Stallion Farms EBF Auction INH Flat Race at Thurles. Having unseated rider in the preliminaries, runner-up No Grey Area’s was unfortunate to be touched off. There was just half a length and a head to Wingin A Prayer (5/2 favourite) and Beeverstown Bullet in third and fourth. Rosgalme’s fellow Meade runner, Ballyhot Boy (5/1 into 100/30) had to make do with sixth place. "I've ridden in a few point to points but that is my first ride for Mr Meade and it couldn't have gone any better,” said Archdeacon. "I'm from Mallow and am full-time with Mr Meade for five months. I will probably get a bit heavier as I'm only 19 but my weight isn't too bad at the moment." For his part Meade remarked: "He is a nice horse and he stays really well and will go jumping hurdles now and run in those auction races which are a great initiative. "I fancied the other fellow (unplaced Ballyhot Boy) more today but I'm delighted for Jay, even if he is from Cork! He is a lovely lad and had good point to point experience with his dad (Louis Archdeacon, trainer). He'll be riding plenty of bumper horses for me. "The owners are from Roscommon, Galway and Meath and that's where Rosgalme got his name." The Stewards interviewed Mr J. Archdeacon, rider of Rosgalme, concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that the rider was in breach of Regulation 10.3(g) in that he had used his whip with excessive frequency. Having taken his previous record in this regard into account, the Stewards suspended Mr. J. Archdeacon for 1 raceday. The Stewards informed David Peter Dunne, trainer of Eat The Book, that a repeat performance from his horse who misbehaved leaving the parade ring and was subsequently withdrawn on veterinary advice may render his charge liable to suspension. The Stewards interviewed Mr T. Hamilton, rider of Beeverstown Bullet, concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that the rider was in breach of Regulation 10.3(g) in that he had used his whip with excessive frequency.
