Galtee Mist wins on first start for new connections
we're delighted with her. She's a bit hot and I think when she learns, and gets more racing, she'll be better. The one thing that she proved today is that she's very genuine. She looked beaten a furlong down and she kept galloping. The credit for buying her must go to Tom Egan (owner); he picked her out himself, and there is a chap in the yard who has done a lot of work with her, Shane O'Brien. He rides her out most mornings and has done a great job with her. Some of these fillies take a bit of training and she's one of those but she has ability. We'll see what mark we get now and probably go for a handicap.
Lady Kaya's connections enjoy Gowran success
we were delighted to get in (as reserve) and it was another bonus getting the draw. What worried Robbie was that he was slow out in Cork and he was slow out here again today but Robbie got a great 'possy' and he was delighted. He said he's just a very relaxed horse to ride, you can wake him up and switch him off. He's still green and he got unbalanced and knocked himself there. I'll go to the calendar now, see what's there and try and keep creeping up the handicap. Hopefully there's more to come. He doesn't so much at home, he's one of those laid back horses and just does what he has to do. Until we keep going to the track we're not sure how much more there is there. Robbie said he'd improved a lot since his Cork run and if he just keeps going that way there's a little bit more in him.
True Self completes four-in-a-row in Gowran feature
she's progressed no end since winning her maiden on the Flat and she just seems to be getting better with every run. She's a nice filly to look forward to during the summer, hopefully. She had a nice blow and I didn't want to be hard on her for no reason. I think she'll come on fitness wise from it.
Guineas winner Lordan steers Linger to Gowran win
they went quick up front and the race probably fell apart a bit in front of him. Wayne gave him a lovely ride. He's been off the track for a while and he won off 49 so hopefully he'll get another go. These races over this trip (1m6f) in this grade are few and far between so our hand will be forced where we go next. He obviously has the option of going hurdling and chasing as well.
Feane's four year old filly lands gamble on debut
she's a lovely filly and was very green there. She was a nice filly last year but had a little muscle problem behind so we gave her a break. The man that bred her leased her to Ray (McSharry) and we're delighted that she won. She's very very smart. We don't know where we'll go from here, we thought she might be placed today as there was a lot of word for a lot of horses in it. Hopefully now she keeps thriving and we get a bit of luck.
O'Brien and Crosse complete Gowran doubles
she (Snapraeceps) had a lovely run first time out and the race worked out very well. Shane was very happy with her and said she had come forward. She travelled much better today and she's a nice filly, I'd say. With any fillies like that black-type is the thing. Whether we take in a winners race on the way or not we'll see what races are there for her. She's a decent filly and the second (Shannan) was well thought of. She should stay a bit further but I'll stick to a mile with her for the time being as she's not slow.
Meryems shows the way as Sunday's trio reconvene
the same first three horses came home again, that doesn't happen too often, especially three days later. We were glad to see the rain and I think if it had dried out we wouldn't have turned up. I spoke to Paddy Graffin (Clerk of the Course) yesterday and he assured me it would be lovely and safe. I think we got more rain than was anticipated which was ideal for her. She's a typical Tough As Nails, they like a good dig in it. She didn't travel as well as that on Sunday, she was on and off it on Sunday. She was always travelling well tonight and I was afraid that we were travelling too well and mightn't have much left. She had to battle well at the end and the first two came away a bit. I'd say being wide was a help.
McCourt's filly follows up Sunday's success
I thought we were nabbed. It's her third run in ten days so she toughed it out well. She ran a bit too free today. She was drawn low and bounced well, I was afraid she might have done a bit too much too early but she toughed it out well. Hopefully the handicapper won't give her any more than she has already. She was 4lb well in today compared to the future and it wouldn't be very fair to give her any more. It's nice to get a couple of wins with her and she's doing now what we thought she might do at home. We'll have to freshen her up a bit now as she's after having a busy ten days. The bit more ease in the ground helped her there.
