Slattery newcomer wins Naas opener
she worked in Tipperary where Billy Lee rode her and he liked her a lot. She is a good filly, and we'll take our time with her now and look for black type. I expected her to need the run today and be going for her maiden the next day; we felt she would like six furlongs and some cut in the ground but she's handled five and good ground there.
Flower Of May 'does well' with Naas win
she got bogged down the last day in the Curragh but needed the run for experience anyway. She's never shown us to be anything bar a black-type filly at home, and I'd have been very disappointed if she hadn't won today. If she is not sold, we will be looking for some black type with her next year and I'm delighted for the syndicate and that's their first winner. It's (Do Well Syndicate) named after a horse that my father looked after years ago that won the Irish St Leger.
Keatley & Sheedy combine for fourth July win
Danny did well on him and was hard at it from a long way out; he gets on well with him. He has an entry over seven furlongs in Galway and may go there and he's earning his keep; hopefully we will get another one or two out of him before the end of the year.
Only Mine wins Naas feature
she was always travelling well and I think she is improving all the time. She will probably go for the Group 3 (Phoenix Sprint Stakes) at the Curragh on August 13, and then we will think about the Group 1 (Haydock Sprint Cup) which she was seventh in last year. Anything bar extremes in the ground is fine for her and she is very genuine and very consistent. I love her to bits and she never runs a bad race, and is building up a fine pedigree page.
Carrigeen Prince gains third win
he needs a big galloping track but he has a bit of a mind of his own; I was a bit worried about there being no whips (in apprentice races) but Donagh is strong. The galloping track here suited him but Galway would not really suit. He stays well and should get a mile and a quarter. He's owned by a few friends of mine along with his breeder Frank Prendergast and Martin Sheridan also has a share.
'Well-in' Pincheck scores for Harrington
I was a bit worried about the ground but luckily we got that heavy shower and Colm said he was very comfortable today. He did hurt himself in Leopardstown and that's why he didn't run for so long. He's a very immature horse still and is only learning. Whatever he does this year he will be an even nicer four-year-old, and he might one day grow into that enormous frame.
Lyons enjoys Psychedelic experience!
the first thing to say, is what was I doing running him over six furlongs?! I had no idea if he would get the trip, and we had to find that out tonight - I'm actually for once happy!. When Colin (Keane) got off him after finishing second to Caravaggio here the last day he said this gets further, and I said if he gets further then he's a good horse. We were going nowhere in the other division, and he's so lazy and so heavy we can't get him fit at home. He was going nowhere turning in and Colin said he half panicked on him, and then you see what happened. I actually enjoyed watching that! . We've learned plenty and he is a good horse; he’s not ground dependant as long as I don't run him with firm in the ground description. He's answered a lot of questions tonight, and we have got a Brendan Bracken substitute in the offing from now on. He's a nice horse to have.
