Poignant Dundalk win for Doitforandrew
he probably had the best form in the race as he finished second to Quick Suzy (subsequent Royal Ascot winner) in a Curragh maiden. He wasn’t getting home before and was always a bit free but he’s settling better now. We weren’t sure if he’d get seven (furlongs) but Wayne said after that he probably wants a mile. We’ll tip away here and see what happens.
Whelan rides first winner for Murphy
he was off the bridle early and I thought we were in bother but Ronan said he kept picking up and he saw it out well. He said if we step him up to a mile that he might be more comfortable. I thought we would get a race out of him on the turf but things just didn’t work out great. Myself and Ronan have been tricking together for a good while but that’s the first winner he’s had with me.
Lawlor registers first training success
I’m training in Hollywood, Co Wicklow and have six horses in at the moment. That’s my first winner and I’m hoarse after cheering her home. She’s been running consistent and I was hopeful she would run well. I’m delighted — over the moon. I got the license last November and this filly was my first runner and is now my first winner. I was breaking and pre-training and before that doing point-to-pointers as well. I was breeding as well but had too many to hand out to other trainers. My brother Pat rode for Francis Flood and we are racing most of our lives.
Consecutive nursery wins for Marsa
it’s good to get it. I don’t like running horses back quick but the way the programme is we had to take our chance. Ben said she was good and brave when he needed her. I’ve had a good few winners for Slade Power, he’s been good to me this year. She’ll have a holiday in the paddock now. Ben said she can go over six or seven (furlongs) but I’d say when she grows up a bit she’ll be more of a seven filly.
Sixth success for Eglish
she’s been running well and that was a bit overdue. Robert Whearty (jockey) was a bit unlucky the other night as the stick got knocked out of his hand. The same thing happened Colin (Keane) and she got 4lb the night he was second on her. She loves this place and is very consistent up here through the winter. Hopefully she can win again at some stage and there is a good bunch of lads (Shamrock Thoroughbreds) involved with her.
Three year old filly wins over two miles
she’s owned by really nice guys - John Runeckles lives in England and David Llewelyn is in Singapore. They have been very patient and I’m absolutely delighted. The penny is only starting to drop now. I told Billy he might have to keep squeezing her up but he said she just tanked with him. There is a nice two-mile 0-70 here on December 17 that she could go for next. There is no programme published yet for here in January so it’s really hard to make plans.
First success for frustrating Dances With Stars
Double trouble for unfortunate Colgan
I feel so sorry for Robbie (Colgan). He puts in all the hard work and misses a double. From his jumps days he was due to get the pins and plates taken out of his knees and was due to go for it last year, but it was cancelled due to covid. It was only at five o’clock last night that he got the call to say the surgery was cancelled again. His knees give him a lot of pain.
