Diego Ventura overcomes greeness to win on Naas debut
I'm not surprised he won as we liked him but I'm sorry I didn't back him when I saw his price afterwards! He goes really well. he was green, pulled up when he hit the front and won with loads of horse left. He could be very nice and it looked a nice race on paper. I can't say I was confident, or anything like that, but I would have been very disappointed if he wasn't bang there. I don't have a plan, we'll get him home and we'll see.
Miss Lamai leads successful British raid on Naas prizes
Universally charges home to land sprint handicap
As long as he gets the splits he always finishes the race,. He's been in great form, he needed a couple of runs to get him started early in the year but he's flying since. He's a full-brother to Garrus, who has been running in Group 1s for Charlie Hills. Not that he's a Garrus but he's improving with age. Ground is key to him, he needs to get his toe in. We've been waiting for that and the forecast was that it was going to rain. I'm hoping to take him and No Niki No over for the Racing League meeting at Chepstow on August 8th.
English trainers win both Listed races at Naas
Selective Powers to success for Bird and Coyle
This horse has my head wrecked! He is some work horse but today's the first time he's done it,. When he comes to the races he won't go into a stable and we've to walk him around for the hour when we get here but he's always had that ability. We have four horses in training, three of them have won this year and the other horse, Divilabother who runs on Friday, has been second. Rob (Whearty) rode him the last day and said he didn't stay. He's at the right end of the handicap and hopefully he won't go too hard on him. He'll keep going. I'm delighted for my dad Paul who hasn't been well. This is his syndicate so it means a lot.
Making Memories Club registers first winner
it's the very first runner for the Making Memories Racing Club who leased her from the Mugs Syndicate - it's a great start but it is all downhill from here!. Robyn felt confident that she was going to get there. She was very comfortable how the horse was travelling and said she loved hitting the bit of traffic. She's a funny filly as at home she goes off and does her own thing and in some ways she's not the most straightforward. The rain came in time for me as she hated the ground in Ballinrobe and never travelled a yard, it was just too fast for her that day. I don't think she's a Galway horse, she likes a nice big open track so we'll have a look and see what the handicapper gives her and go from there.
Autumn campaign planned for Power Under Me
he's a lovely horse and that's a nice bonus as it wasn't on the agenda as he's in the middle of a holiday at the minute, aiming for an autumn campaign. Kerri (daughter) rides him every day and he just leads two-year-olds. We're trying to just keep him ticking over and give him his break. He qualified for this race, you don't expect to get this ground at this time of the year and it just fell right for him. Colin said he thought he was going to win hands-and-heels and then had a blow so he had to give him a few flicks. I thought he'd need this as we haven't revved him up and that will leave him set up and now I can get him revved up for September, onwards. He's a star and I'm delighted for Vincent and Geraldine (Gaul, owners), he's just been a lovely horse for them.
Champion Keane completes Naas double
that's a little surprise because I said to Colin that the horse is well but will probably just take blow, as there is a race for him in Galway. He said at the furlong pole he 'exploded' and went for girths, but filled himself up and he said he is just well. He's only won a head, he's an eight-year-old and is a fun horse. He's in the Ahonoora at Galway and might get in off a low weight. He'd carry a penalty in that or we might look at another ordinary handicap in the week where he might be re-assessed.
