Gigginstown record 1-3 in Wexford's unplaced maiden
he had an alright run in a bumper over the winter, and obviously the good ground has helped him today, and he has won very easily. Joseph said to make plenty of use of him, give him a bit of light and to get him jumping. It's onward and upwards for him now hopefully. They have done a good job watering here, but it is genuine good ground.
Bettyville provides Croke and My Betty with another success
she has been working very well at home and has always been a good mare. Last year she did well early on before she lost her way a little bit. She wasn't getting her ground but she got it today. She won over fences here before and got put up nine pounds. She will probably struggle a bit over fences now, but I'm delighted with the win today anyway.
Trainer/jockey picks right with Wexford winner
yesterday morning I wasn't sure I had picked the right one (to ride), because the other horse (Nulife) has ability, but it's hard to get it out of him. He (Nulife) won here before and we had to come here as he needs to go left-handed. the winner loves this ground, he rattles off it and hasn't had it since Bellewstown last summer. It's great for connections (JRM Racing Syndicate), and they have another runner in the next.
O'Dwyer enjoying his Wexford winners
I must come back here more often!. Hugo (Kane, owner) bought him off us before his last run and a reproduction of that run was going to see him go close, but it doesn't always work out like that!. He jumped super and travelled well, and while there was a bit of carnage around the place, we'll take a bit of luck when we get it. I'd say in time he will be a horse who needs a trip and he has turned into a different horse since he started jumping a few hurdles. It mightn't have been the strongest contest in the world but they are not easily won.
Slevin completes double on his father's bargain buy
she ran well last year when she was only four and has never let us down and always ran a good race. She is well-handicapped so hopefully she'll be able to get the job done again. I think the ground helped her - I'd said she needs that ground and she'll go for another handicap now. She is very small so I'd say she will stay over hurdles. Peter and Karen Sinnott own her, they bought her for E800 at the sales, so it was a nice bargain!
Master scores for veteran trainer Kiely
originally I've trained since my father (Matt) died in 1974 but I was training since 1953 — it's a long time!
'Winning' gamble thrown out in stewards' room
we had no explanation for his Killarney run. He came out of the race perfect. We actually rode him out the next day and we normally wouldn't. I saw this over two miles and I thought it would suit him. I was a bit worried when I saw the last was to be omitted. My initial thoughts were that there wasn't an awful lot in it, but when I saw the head on there was enough. I obviously feel sorry for Paul Power (trainer of Bakers Street) and Jeannie Cook, I know them well and they are friends of mine. Dark Outsider has been a great servant and that's his fifth win. He'll go to Tramore next week - he is probably better going left-handed but he has won around Tramore before. Danny was brilliant on him. He has always been the key to him. We have hit the cross bar a few times recently so it's great to get this.
Dorrells Pierji wins bumper for Mullinses
I'd said he liked the better ground and he settled much better today and we dropped him in. He was very keen on his last two runs.
