Basic Law learning on the job and sheds maiden tag on 2nd start
We're delighted with that. Seven furlongs on a tight enough track is as sharp as he wants it,. He will want a mile on a galloping track, if not a little bit further. Fair play to Gary (Carroll) the last day as he taught him an awful lot. Colin said said today that it's tough going ground wise and he'll appreciate it a little bit better. He's still very green and there should be a lot more improvement to come. That would suggest that he's a nice horse. I said to Colin 'you had to help him' and he said 'yeah it was just absolute greenness. In Naas it was only the last two furlongs that he got to learn something. I'd say he's a nice horse and we're happy with that.
Stormy Belle keeps the locals happy with Gowran feature race win
The tongue-tie seems to be working,. We had her in the Curragh and she worked well but that was it. We came here as we had to make a start and this race looked lovely for her. I said coming here that if I finished in the first three I'd be very happy as it was a good race. You could go somewhere to gallop but it was €18,000 for going and running. You couldn't even say that's she's better fresh as she ran twice in Galway and would have won the second day if she had got out. She ran a week later then and won. She's just improving with age. She didn't go in foal last year and we had it down to the final days but when we got her checked she wasn't in foal. We'll look for a similar race if I can come across one. We'll see can she up it and we want to get a bit of black-type if we can. She's nearly entitled to get a bit, to be placed or whatever. That was good because she gave a blow going to the line and still held on, there is improvement in her.
Keane quickly puts a double on the board thanks to Maria at Gowran
She's strengthened up unbelievably from last year. She's a different filly altogether,. She likes a bit of cut in the ground and she generally runs her best race when she's fresh. Where we go now depends on the ground. We'll see how she comes out of it.
Annie does it again for Murphy and Farragher
That was brilliant to say the least,. We knew leaving Leopardstown the last night that we were going to have challenge on our hands in order to do it with weight on her back. I thought the ground was going to be a little more more testing than what it is here. It just suited her down to the ground. I found her highly impressive coming to the finish, the way she battled, she started to pull away again. She's going to get a break now, two or three weeks off, and we'll sit back and see where we'll go from there. We'll see what the summer ground will throw at us. I did make a mistake running her at Dundalk all winter. She definitely wants an ease in the ground. I think we just weren't working her hard enough, the harder you give it to her the better she is going. Hopefully we could get a bit of black-type at some stage, we'll see what the summer will throw.
Poignant success as Meryems Way springs a surprise
She ran well last year for us in Cork when she came from a similar draw and finished well. We were expecting her to run well and thought she'd handle the ground today,. The light weight was probably a help. I'm not shocked that she won but nicely surprised. She's a full-sister to Nailed On Nina (12th in the 5.05) who didn't quite handle the ground. Unfortunately Peter (Mooney) is not here today as his brother died yesterday. This is a new owner (Maureen Nudds), a friend of Peter's who had her last year. She's a lady from England, who is in financial services. It's a great start for her as it's her second runner. She would be a good friend of Peter and she's taken over two of his horses this year. She's a big Watford fan so she's on a total high after the weekend!
Expensive buy Solage impressive on Irish debut
She could be a very nice prospect. She was a brave buy but she's worth it now anyway,. We'll look at a stakes race for her now. She has the lot and I wouldn't think a mile-and-a-half would be a problem for her but I wouldn't rule out dropping her back in trip either. She's probably versatile ground-wise as she's a very good moving filly.
No Drama as it's 3 for Keane and 2 for Lyons at Gowran
That's super and we're delighted with that. He's a horse that's been working real well at home but we were very worried about the mile-and-two trip at home because at home, ideally he wants a mile-and-four. He'll improve for that and he'll also improve for greenness. He's a big horse that took a bit of time to get together. I think we'll have a bit of fun with him over the summer. He'll go handicapping now and how good of a handicap we go for the handicapper will tell us. That was a fair ask to that off in front. I don't know what was behind him but to do that in front, and go wide from a wide draw, was a fair ask. He handles that ground, he's a big horse and wouldn't want it quick. That's lovely ground there and he'll handle proper good ground but he's such a big horse that we wouldn't even attempt to try him on quick ground. We do like him a lot.
Foley Whirling along for Mrs Harrington completing a Gowran brace
A little juice in the ground is what he needs and he got it today which was great. Hopefully we'll head to the Vintage Crop now,. He stays well, he'll go two miles and will probably go further than two miles. Last summer we didn't get the ground for him and that's why he was so lightly raced. There are plenty of options for him and he'll be entered in all those long distance races. He'll to travel to England if necessary and he's a nice horse to have.
