An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference approximately half a furlong out when the winner, Singing Sheriff (GB), ridden by Liam Keniry, interfered with Arabic Culture (USA), placed second, ridden by Daniel Tudhope.
The Stewards considered that the interference had improved Singing Sheriff (GB)’s placing as Arabic Culture (USA) was gaining ground when Tudhope had to switch around Singing Sheriff (GB) which was hanging right-handed across him, causing Arabic Culture (USA) to lose ground which the gelding was rapidly regaining as they hit the line, to be beaten a short head.
They revised the placings as follows: First, Arabic Culture (USA), Second, Singing Sheriff (GB).
The interference was found to be accidental as Singing Sheriff (GB) had hung sharply right- handed despite the rider’s best efforts to correct the gelding.
Following the race, David Egan reported that Epitaph (IRE), placed eighth, was never travelling; the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the gelding, during routine testing, failed to reveal any abnormalities.
