Keppols gains deserved win in opener
She had the form to do it and had plenty of experience but was unlucky to have been running into one too good. She was unlucky one day at Ballinrobe when they took out the last hurdle. I was thinking of going over fences with her but I might keep her to hurdles now and try for some black-type.
Track may bid for Duggan Chase repeat
He was entitled to win on handicap ratings and Brian gave him a lovely ride. I was surprised Bryan (Cooper) didn't ride him as he was 9lbs better off. He might go to Limerick at Christmas for the Tim Duggan Chase (won it last year) but he's also in the Paddy Power at Leopardstown.
Stay scores as Dawn fails to shine
When I was brushing him over before he ran the last day, I thought he was fierce quiet in himself but ran fierce well so today I didn't bother brushing him. He's a small horse and his dam is a full sister to Earthmover. If the horse is sound and loose he'll go to Cork on Sunday. It's my first winner for his owner Thomas McNulty, from Ballinrobe. I met him when Missunited won her first race at Ballinrobe and he said he wanted a horse like her!. He's a very genuine man and spends half his year in Carolina with his kids and grandkids so this is mighty for him!
Doyle takes his opportunity on Zip
You comes out on top in dramatic event
it wasn't the strongest of races but it was nice to get it. He's a nice honest, good looking horse who always does his best. He always looks like he wants it when he is in a battle and, if all your string was like that, you'd be in business!. I don't know where we go from here.
Stronger Dearg leaps to victory
He is an excellent jumper and made lengths at every fence. He was a big weak horse last year and wasn't the easiest to put weight on. We won't race him too soon and while I've no plans, two and a half miles on a bigger track would be ideal.
Jimmy scores for the first time
He's a dour stayer and all he does is just gallop. Last season he was very sticky with his jumping and jumped to the right. It took a while to sort out and his experience probably told today. He wants soft ground. He did a serious piece of work at Maralin the other day, and we'll look for a staying novice at Christmas.
