The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Civena trained by J.A.Berry was post race normal. R. Walsh, rider of Civena trained by J.A.Berry, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount made a mistake at the first and never travelled thereafter. D.E. Splaine, rider of Grande Milan trained by Gerard Kelleher, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount made a mistake at the second and lost her confidence thereafter. Owing to the low lying sun, the Stewards granted permission for the first fence in the straight to be omitted. The Stewards enquired into the running and riding of The Blarney Rose, ridden by Mr B. Crowley, and trained by Eugene M. O'Sullivan. Evidence was heard from the rider and trainer concerned. Mr B. Crowley, stated that his instructions were to settle his mount towards the rear, taking into account that she can race freely when amoungst in the back straight and suffered interference in the straight. In hindsight, he accepted that he may have exaggerated the waiting tactics and misjudged things. Eugene M. O'Sullivan, confirmed the instructions and added that he would have preferred to see the horse ridden closer to the pace . The Stewards also received a report from the Turf Club Veterinary Officer who stated that The Blarney Rose was tied up behind post race. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards noted the trainers explanations, however they were of the opinion that the rider was in breach of Rule 212 and having considered his record, suspended him for seven race days.
