S.W. Flanagan, rider of Bridies Boy trained by John J. Walsh, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount jumped right throughout. K.M. Donoghue, rider of Simple Joys (GB) trained by Mrs Denise Foster, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount made a respiratory noise in-running. The Stewards received a report from the Clerk of the Scales, P.L. Malone, that B. Hayes, rider of Goulane Chosen, had failed to draw the weight at which he weighed out, having been allowed 1lb. Evidence was heard from the rider and trainer concerned. The trainer stated that the breast plate had been inadvertently weighed-out with the saddle as it was wrapped up with the pad but had then been detached when unsaddling and the rider weighed-in without out it which probably contributed to the rider weighing in light. Having considered the evidence, the Stewards found that the rider had failed to draw the correct weight, contrary to Rule 231 and disqualified the Goulane Chosen from 4th place. They further found both trainer and rider in breach of Rule 198 (ii) by allowing a breastplate on the scales on weighing-out and having considered their respective good records the Stewards severely cautioned both trainer and rider in this regard.
