Simply Sideways keeps up the good work for Doyle & Bowen
I can't believe how much she has improved all year long. She started out rated 50 and in the past month has improved a stone and a half - for a six year old mare I can't believe it but her attitude is right. Today was her most impressive and everything came in her favour, with the ground and stepping up to 1m1f has been a help. Sean has won three times on her and has had five wins from eight rides for me but it is a pity he is suspended for the rest of the season. I had no runner for four months last summer as the horses just weren't right. That definitely helped though as they had an idle year, got dropped without running and we started our year with all our horses rated 50!. They are healthy this year and weren't last year. They weren't coughing - it wasn't a lung thing but their systems just fell apart and couldn't take work. Because they weren't healthy, they were out in the field most of the summer and we have continued that. It has been an amazing month.
Night Moon bolts up ahead of a date at the sales
We bought him as a yearling in Germany and while he was a slow-burner, is really improving now. He is part of a syndicate and is due to be sold at the end of his three-year-old career. He is in the Newmarket horses-in-training sale and will make a lovely jumper for somebody. He likes soft ground and while he didn't get 1m4f at the start of the year, is getting there now and stays the trip well. I think he is a good horse, is tailor-made for jumping and is from a good German staying family. He loves soft ground and has turned into a very professional horse. I don't think we'll get to run him again but I think there will be plenty of interest in him at Newmarket.

Extra 2lb claim for Ryan proves vital in tight finish
James had lost the 7lb claim the other day so the extra 2lb came in handy! He got 31 winners as a 7lb claimer. It was mostly through Michael Donohoe (of BBA Ireland) that got him for me. The people who own him have plenty of good horses, this horse was expensive as a yearling (cost 180,000 at the Goffs Orby Sale) and has a great pedigree. The dam was very good over 1m4f on soft ground so we thought he'd want all of it today. He wouldn't do anything flashy at home and is more stamina than speed. He is honest but looks at everything and that's why I have cheekpieces. He is tough, all he does is stay and I'd say he could be sold now.
Collins saddles first winner at his home track
I'm from Tralee and I've always wanted to have a winner here, so at last! I ran a few last year but they didn't win. This horse has been running well all along but didn't get luck in running and Colin was very good on him. It is a great syndicate from Offaly who will enjoy it - there was four members but I think there are 24 now! They were previously involved with One Cool Poet (triple-Galway festival winner in 2019) so it is great to get a Listowel winner. He is a big, fun horse who will mix between flat and hurdles now and could go over and back to England. I have 40 horses in training, have a great team working including Davy Condon and have the best of lads riding out.
