Troon overturns the favourite in the opener
Whelan gets Lord up to score
She is in the sales at Newmarket and Ronan gave her a peach of a ride. I was disappointed with her the last day at Killarney but it was probably just greeness on her first time out. She is by Whipper and she liked the ground. I have two more runners today and she was the one I fancied least!
Shanahan records first double
Another for Hayes as Marlos scores for Culloty
He travelled well and he handled the ground very well. He just keeps improving and was very professional today. He will go back over hurdles soon just because there is not many races on the flat for him now but he will be back on the flat next summer. He is a very adaptable horse and we have schooled him over fences and he jumps well. Chris gave him a great ride, he knows him well and he is a proper jockey. That is my first winner here as a trainer but I've had winners riding. The owners (the Two F M Partnership) are from Ballinasloe.
Back In Focus impresses on chasing debut
He came here with a big reputation and a lot of people rang me after he won his point-to-point telling me to buy him but I thought it would be a bit risky buying a 6yo point-to-pointer. He eventually came to me after being in the UK and he looks a useful acquisition. I met the Costello's (trained him point-to-pointing) yesterday and they said he would love this ground. Being a Bob Back you wouldn't think that would be the case. He has a huge long stride and I said to Ruby don't be afraid to go on if there isn't much of a pace because he keeps on galloping. He took one big breath going out for the last circuit but he just gallops all day and he is one with a future I hope.
Lough loves it around Listowel
Davy is a first class jockey. We will take him home now and admire him for a while.
Coole scores for the Coopers
The last time he won was here two years ago when he won his maiden hurdle. He is a horse that has had leg trouble. His form was solid and he had a lovely run behind Aughnacurraveel and Back In Focus at Tipperary. He had a nice run at Galway too and he fell at Bellewstown. Bryan was super on him. He said beforehand that he would drop him in and put him to sleep. He is a horse that stays all day. We might jump a fence with him now.
Annie takes the last as expected
I was very taken with her on her two wins and I was delighted to get her. Credit has to go to Jim Bolger as we only have her the last few days. She is a big mare and will jump a hurdle and maybe even a fence in time. She will have a break now and come back for a novice hurdle. We will see how she comes out of this first.
