Spanish Flame gives double-jobbing Keane a good start
This was going to be his first race when it was called off (due to a waterlogged track). We also have him entered (in a maiden) at the Curragh next Wednesday but the conditions suited here and he was telling us he was well and ready to run. Roscommon have done a fantastic job with the ground in the middle of a mini heatwave. It was on the easy side of good for the first race which he needed. I think we have a nice bunch of two-year-olds and he’s definitely one of them. I’m delighted for Vincent and Geraldine (Gaul) who come up with a good one every so often. The Chesham could be an option for Ascot.
Alfarida makes breakthrough on second start for Slattery
She was due one and Gavin (Cromwell) had her before me. She was second in Dundalk and we were waiting on this ground for her. I only have her since March. She’s entered at Listowel on Saturday over a mile and I’d say she probably wants a mile the way she stayed at it there. We’ll see how she is tomorrow. The lads (Eight Ball Syndicate) are from Tallaght.
Mum to be Mary Salome records sixth career win
She had run 47 times and never ran here. It’s a track that would ideally suit her as she is sharp away and there is a long straight. Luke gave her a brilliant ride and won the same way on her in Listowel before. She loves a bit of hassle at the end of a race and he kept her among horses. She is in foal to Equiano and that’s why she hasn’t ran recently. She is a great mare for us and a great guide at home for work. We’ll keep running away until around Galway.
