It's great for young Joe. He's 16 and a local fellow. He signed on to Charlie Swan and he would ride work for us. He's ridden a lot of pony race winners and it's good to get the ball rolling for him. I'm delighted for the owner Liam O'Kelly. He's very supportive of me and the whole yard. I don't know where we'll go with him. We had to come here today as he's gone up to 66 [in the handicap] and that's going to be tough. He had 17 pounds in hand today so he was entitled to win, but it'll be tough from here now. An extended handicap for three yrs old and upwards, 70 = 10st
Penalties - -(after calculation of the handicap) A winner shall carry 5lb extra for each race won Any horse rated above 70 shall initially be treated as having that rating and the highest weight allotted shall be 10st. Subsequently, the excess over 70 in any rating shall be added to the weight allotted to that horse. For the purpose of this note, any three year old rated above 70 shall have the applicable weight for age allowance then prevailing deducted from the horse's rating prior to the original calculation of the handicap
Riders - Apprentices who are apprenticed to trainers in Ireland only and who have not lost the right to claim the 10lb or 7lb allowance under Rule 69 and who will not be allowed to carry whips. Allowances (up to and including July 16th and which are not cumulative) Apprentices who have not ridden a *winner allowed 7lb Those who have not ridden three *winners allowed 4lb Those who have not ridden ten *winners allowed 2lb
