Kupa River takes maiden in runaway fashion
He’d some very good form, and the last day he was third in a far better maiden. The hood has really helped him and my staff have done a great job as he was on his nerves a bit on his first few runs and did too much. Ronan reckoned he’d be a far better horse going left-handed and he was right. He’s improved every run. It’s hard to figure out what his rating will be after today. He’s very much a baby and I think he’ll be a much better horse next year.
The Last Indian goes marching on
I was very worried about the ground but Pat twisted my arm and he was one hundred per cent right. My staff have done a great job keeping her healthy and fit as the family are all quirky. We may look at another handicap, and then we will go hurdling. She has a mark of 83 over hurdles.

Coquin Mans maintains unbeaten record
He ran very cold there whereas in his hurdle races he takes a huge grip and Ruby can hardly hold him. That’s why we have a hood and a chifney on him. It’s obviously the hurdles that light him up rather than racing. Patrick said when he picked him up he wasn’t sure what was going to happen. He thought he was going to win easy and then he didn’t pick up. Maybe in these flat races we can leave all the gear off him.
Une Lavandiere is cheered home at Listowel
I’m delighted for Pat (O’Loughlin, owner) as he loves this place and has been coming here for more years than he’d admit to at this stage. He’s really enjoyed that win with all his friends here from Wexford, and I’m sure it will be well celebrated in Ballybunion tonight. She was a little bit lucky at the last but she’s game and stays well. She’s not the fastest in the world but the ground slows down the rest of them. She looks much better in herself today than before. We freshened her up for today and it’s worked out well. She will probably go for those mares’ chases.
Lagostovegas lands Ladbrokes feature
She was very slick at the last and that was probably the difference between winning and losing. We were fortunate the winning post came soon enough. The prize-money is good and we took our chance on the ground. She would prefer more of a test of stamina. We will keep our options open with her on the Flat and the Cesarewitch is a likely target. She’s plenty big enough to go over fences next year.
Ben Button brings up Mullins treble
He likes the soft ground and he likes a trip. There is a race for him at Gowran Park in a few weeks and hopefully it doesn’t come too soon.
