Violette makes the breakthrough in Leopardstown opener
That was grand. She's still a bit timid and when I saw the one coming on the outside I thought 'this is what we wanted',. The plan was to attack wide and late and let her do it without frightening her. There is still a lot of growing to do mentally and anything else. She did a lot of growing from two to three and it's only in the last month she started showing us the ability that she showed at two. She'll go up to a mile now and by the end of the year she'll be running over a mile-and-a-quarter. She won't run on that ground again, she's a Starspangledbanner, and she needs a bit of juice. It's beautiful ground out there but it's still too quick for her. She won the race by pure ability and the further she went the better she was. I'd say there is a lot of improvement in her as she's very much a work in progress. The first furlong going to the start she was, as Colin said, tasty and he did very well to get her back. It could all have been lost there. It's a good start to the day. I'm delighted for the owners Rick and Catriona Gaynor, who are from Trim but live in America. They go back to America next week for the summer so it's great to get the winner while they are here.
Female Soldier guns down her rivals
She was giving all the right vibes at home. We didn't want firm ground for her, the ground was nice today and when the forecast was good we said we'd take a chance,. I was hoping she'd run into a place. When I saw the field I thought it was a fairly hot maiden and fair play to her, she's very decent. I thought a mile-and-two was perfect for her so we took our chance. She was able to beat Morning Soldier at home and she'd be getting 7lb from him in a maiden. He's not too bad, he's rated 87. We were just hoping for a good run but we weren't expecting to win. I hope she takes it well, she should as she's a strong minded filly. You probably won't see her out again for a few weeks at least. She'll probably be sold.
Foley back firing on Fumata
I'm delighted with him. He ran a great race the first day in Navan but just got outpaced early on,. He was outpaced today and I'd say a mile-and-a-half is his minimum trip, they went very hard. He's a very big horse, he's got a lovely pedigree and he's a horse that's probably going to stay on in training as a four-year-old. He'll turn into a nice staying horse in the end.
Yashin completes quick double for Foley & Harrington
He was good. We went from a mile to a mile-and-a-half and it probably looked a bit stupid but we knew after the last day that he really needed to go a distance,. There was no maiden coming up for him so when this three-year-old only handicap came up we thought this was where he should be, because we thought he was probably quite nicely handicapped. We'll take it step by step, I don't think the handicapper will be very nice to him!. He's got his win now and Gerry (Byrne) bred him too so it's great for him. We liked him last year and getting him gelded during the winter was the making of him.
History is another for O'Brien & Moore
I'm delighted with her, she got plenty of time to come to hand, and we were running her to see whether we go to an Irish Guineas or an Oaks,. Ryan was very happy and said to go to the Irish Guineas with her, she can do that (Oaks) then after. She's highly strung but she's lovely. The second is a good filly and you'd have to be very happy with her. I was hoping she'd run well and was hoping that we'd find out whether to go to the Irish Guineas or Oaks. The way she quickened you have to give her a chance at the Irish Guineas.
Stone Age the Derby favourite after Trial romp
He's lovely, he's a high cruiser, he's tactical and he keeps going, he keeps pushing it out,. He came forward lovely and we thought he'd come forward a bit more from today. The plan was to give him two runs, because he was a maiden he started in Navan and then came here. We always felt he was very good and we weren't really worrying about winning a maiden (last year). He ran over seven in a Group 1, he's a high tempo horse.
Pretreville makes all in the Amethyst
The plan was to come here after he ran a very good race the last day,. It was a field of good horses and I suppose you could make a case for the six horses today. He was very impressive and Ronan gave him a world class ride, he dictated. We might drop him back to seven, we might look at Ascot, we're not exactly sure. I'm sure he'll get another hike after today, he was a 112 or 113 horse at one stage in France so he could head back up towards that. French people still own half of him and Shamrock owns the other half. I'd say he could go foreign somewhere before the year is out. He's a very classy horse and a privilege to have. He's a horse that doesn't need a lot of running either, we don't like to dip him too many times. It'll probably be at least three or four weeks before you see him again and maybe even six weeks.
'Jumps horse' Journal wins Leopardstown finale
He's a good horse and the better ground suited him today,. He'll be one for the July Sale and he'll make a lovely jumps horse. He stays well and has everything for that game.
