Tombstone gets it done at odds-on
Red justifies odds-on favouritism but only just
Just in the last 20 yards the other horse seemed to find a gear and I thought we were beat,. He jumped brilliant the whole way. In his bumpers he never used to travel but he travelled great today and the jump at the last won it. He worked brilliant the other day and he never does that. He wants three miles. We’ll see what the handicapper does and he’s a novice until later in the year so he can run in long distance novice races over the summer.
Owner Ward wins with the outsider of Leopardstown pair
We said today we’d jump him out and let him enjoy it. We’ve had plenty of problems with this lad. It’s his first run back and we think we’ve sorted these bits and pieces — it’s a nice surprise. The plan was always to go over fences over the summer, and we said we’d give him a chance to win a hurdle before that. He might win another one now on his way to fences. There is a nice race on the Flat in him too, a two-mile Flat race. It would be lovely to go to Fairyhouse at Easter with him and then on to Punchestown.
Compo for Dunne and double up for Meade and Flanagan
Because he’s by Flemensfirth I always thought he wouldn’t like good ground but he floated around Fairyhouse last week and because he came home so well that’s why I stuck him in here,. Even on Friday morning Noel (O’Brien, owner/breeder) was saying I’m not sure about running him but I said we’d leave it until the last minute and hopefully the rain will come which it did. Even before racing it was still quite quick. All he had to do was stand up there I suppose but we’ll paddle on and see where we go. He could go for a novice handicap at Fairyhouse, and I’d say two and a half would suit him a lot better.
Enright earns the plaudits after Leopardstown feature race win
He seemed to enjoy the bit of easier ground there. He jumped a lot better and travelled better. I’ll have to speak to Eddie and Michael but I’d say there is a good chance he’ll go for the Kim Muir,. It was easier ground when he won in October and he always looked happy today.
Wintry scene but a winner to remember for O'Hanlon
Sixshooter brings up Meade treble at Leopardstown
He’d never been on grass before and we know he goes on snow now! I’d say he’s quite a decent horse,. He’ll run again in a four-year-old race later in the year and could go for the race in Limerick. It's been a great weekend - four runners and four winners.
