It wasn't unexpected. She is a hardy little mare and has done everything we have asked of her at home. Anything she does, she does it easy. We are a small little team and couldn't be overly confident. I thought greenness would beat her. She wouldn't have been around too many horses before because we wouldn't have that many. She is just tough and is from a good family. The dam was a very good mare. I'm delighted to get a winner for the syndicate because they have been very good to me, even when I was only breaking horses. Phelim and Mary (Sheridan) are involved in the syndicate and Mary is a first cousin of mine. They have the dam and she is back in foal again. I was going to go back for a bumper with her after today but that day is gone now!. We have 10 in at the moment and most of them are point-to-pointers. We had a winner at Moira a few weeks ago so the horses are running well.

The horses have been knocking on the door and I thought she was going to be second again today but thankfully she kept at it. She is a good tough mare and was very unlucky last weekend. We were just a bit worried coming back so soon on heavy ground but there wasn't that many opportunities coming up for her. Jordan gave her a great ride and it's the first winner we have had in a while. Hopefully it's onwards and upwards from here. The horses have been running well without winning. She might be one off a light-weight in a good handicap but today was the plan and she got it done. She travels very strongly on the bridle. Jordan said they were taking her on a bit and that she was running a bit on her nerves. She jumps great. We might give her a little chance now and run her again at Limerick over Christmas. Gerry and Christina Hughes own her. They are very good people from Galway and have been great supporters. They are going away to a wedding soon so they'll enjoy it even more now.
Townend shines on Ballycashin
Jody walked the track and said that she could feel some good ground on the inside. I told her if she wanted to do it, she could do it her way. She did and did it well. I think she is a mare with a future. She is a full-sister to Minella Drama who is a good horse in England. She is not a big mare but is tough. I'd say she will go jumping now. I will have another word with Jody but I don't want to be hard on her. I'd like to let her off in a maiden hurdle and she jumps well. She is owned by the daughters of Bobby McCarthy of Beeches Stud, where Flemensfirth stood, so it's a homebred horse.
