Weld introduces another newcomer winner
she's a nice filly, is owned and bred by Calumet and it's lovely to have a nice filly for them. She worked well the other morning and I thought she'd run very well and there is nice improvement in her. She had a good draw in one but it didn't really matter as she was just too good for them. She'll have one more run this season and we'll have a crack at a stakes race. She stays well and handles that ground - she’ll always need a nice ease in the ground.
Wachman on the mark with Rekindling
he's a grand colt, ran well in Galway and is a nice horse. I don't know where he'll go now but he’ll be a grand mile-and-a-half horse. I'll speak to the owners but it's possible he might not run again this year as he's only a frame.
Murtagh wins Gowran feature with 'ice queen'
the aim this year was to get a bit of black-type and I knew when she got the Listed place in Killarney, we were aiming a bit high the last two times. I had great belief in her when conditions are like that and I think that's the ideal trip for her. A mile is a bit too short and a mile-and-a-quarter maybe a bit too long so today's trip was ideal, the ground was ideal and I'm just delighted to win. It's a long way from St Moritz and I think she'll be a valuable broodmare for Michael (Ryan, owner). I'm not sure (if she'll race again next season) as I haven't spoke to Michael yet but that's job done. Michael junior got married on Friday and I told them 'I'll have a nice wedding present for him on Sunday' - so there you go!
Hayden scores second winner in a fortnight
he’s a home-bred and seemed to handle the soft ground but we thought he might not. He's a different horse than he was early in the year when had a wart under his belly and it was bothering him. We had to get it shifted and everything went well after that. He seems to stay a mile alright and I'll have to study the calendar now and see what is next. He might also jump a hurdle as well at some stage.
Keane scores double on Doyle's Annie Irish
the horse that won the previous race (William Ashford) was drawn 15 and came up the left-hand rail and because Annie Irish misses the kick a bit, we decided to do the same thing and Colin gave her a beautiful ride. She got hung up in the stalls three runs ago and had to be withdraw and had to stand in for two or three week with a cut after that. It then took a while to get her fit again and it's good to have her back and she loves this place and always runs well. We'll keep tipping away with her and she might do a bit of Dundalk and she's missed half the season.
Kandahari wins for McConnell/Leonard
she deserved that I think, as she kept coming up against well handicapped horses. I'm delighted to get a winner for the owner (Kirsten Rausing) as she has been a good supporter and she came from a very good nursery having been bred by her. It's also an important win as it's a young family. She should be a better horse next year as she has still a bit of growing to do and seems very genuine. We'll give her a couple of weeks and then she might run again. She's not too bad and I wish I had a few more like her.
Weld and Smullen complete Gowran double
he’s (Massayan) a very tough genuine colt and battled hard to win in Galway and he battled hard to win again today. It was a good performance and he'll maybe go for a handicap now.
Group 3 win helps Murtagh to Gowran double
he’s (Pacodali) a highly rated horse and we gave him a break after Ascot as he was a bit tired after that. I think he's a stakes horse and he'll improve fitness wise and Billy (Lee) said he could drop back a furlong and a bit of better ground would suit. He's a horse we've always thought a lot of and he's been unlucky a few times. He showed enough in the Tetrarch (Stakes) to show us he could hopefully be a stakes horse.
