Herewego scores on debut
He will be better over seven furlongs or a mile and I was hoping it wouldn't be too short for him today. That ground wouldn't do him any harm, although I wouldn't like to run him on very fast ground.
2,000 Guineas next up for Mustajeeb
He was a good two-year-old with a rating of 110, and I thought he'd progressed well over the winter. I'll have to speak to Sheikh Hamdan and Angus Gold but I will encourage them to run him in the Irish 2,000 Guineas. Pat didn't have to be hard on him, and that will set him up nicely for two weeks time.
Sun shines brightly in the Afternoon
She is a brave and genuine filly, and was given an excellent ride by Pat. She quickened and she battled. We'll have to think about the Irish 1,000 Guineas but we'll see how she comes out of this race first. She's an exceptionally well-bred filly, and a mile and a quarter could well be her optimum trip.
Rock gets Derby Trial in Stewards Room
I don't want to win any race that way but interference happened and I thought he was the best horse on the day. It was a very messy race and Pat was adamant that the interference cost him the race. He is a big, long-striding horse and after they quickened off the home bend he lost his hind end momentum. Pat did the right thing and gave him a few seconds to find his stride. I've been teaching him to settle and switch off. Today was the first time he was really asked to sprint, and it just took him a few strides to react. I'd say it's pretty definite that he will go to Epsom, and he certainly learned a lot today.
Harley goes through the gears in style
Everything went wrong for her last year but she has a great attitude and great heart. She likes a bit of juice in the ground. This win will probably put her into the premier handicap grade now and, as her dam is a half-sister to the dam of Kingston Hill, she would be valuable if we can get her some black type.
Sanity denies Smullen/Weld four-timer
He's versatile trip wise. The dam is by Galileo so a mile and a half was no problem. He'll go for something similar.
356/1 double for Bolger & Manning
It was a good ride by Kevin. He is an improving horse and we will see how the handicapper treats him now.
