Star Adventure wins Downpatrick opener for Meade and Flanagan
We were disappointed in Killarney when she ran but it was a bit soon after the previous run I think,. I actually bought the one that won in Killarney (Glint In Her Eye) the other day, so she looks kind of reasonably good value now. I bred her myself and she is a half sister to Laura Bullion and Union Gap and hopefully there will be a few more winners to come out of that pedigree yet. She tough and she stays well - Gold Well makes her that way. She worked very well last year and she went and won a bumper early on and then she went and cracked her pelvis and missed a whole lot of time.
Darver Stars on his return from a 112 day break
We gave him a break and freshened him up. . He might jump a fence at some stage in time too. Yeah he did (relish that ground) and might benefit from going further too.
Jockey Flanagan bows out with a winner
I'll take a good leaf off the boss (Gerry Keane) and see how the training is done. I'll stay working for Gerry - he's been very good to me and is a good friend as well as a boss. Small steps first!. The ground was probably a bit lively for him in Sligo. I'd say it was (also) more competitive than we thought it was. He likes to run handy. He had been disappointing over hurdles the last couple of years and that is why he is well handicapped over hurdles compared to fences. I think he is a better horse over fences. I thought the two mile three might catch him out but it didn't and he won very well in the end. He won here over two mile five and has never won over two miles since. He couldn't win a point-to-point - the plan was to win a point-to-point and sell him on. That's six I think he has won on the track now. There are a couple of chases coming up for him, there is one in Killarney. He'll mix it anyway.
Lily off the mark under super-sub Mullins
Fair play to the stewards for letting us run (with Danny Mullins putting up 4lb overweight). They could have been very awkward and not let us run. All the owners are here and they didn't make too much of a fuss,. He rode her very well and is a very shrewd jockey. She's not overly big and I thought today we would put her in a higher class race and take the weight off her - it worked a treat. It will be something similar again, and if we get a bit of weight off her back she will be all the better for it. She was going well here the last day and she fell at the top of the hill.
What a difference a day makes for Summer Hill
He didn't handle the track at all last night in Kilbeggan - he would have won if he handled it. It was freakish in Kilbeggan, he just didn't handle it. I pulled him out this morning and gave him a canter and a pop over a hurdle and he looked good. Liam Quinlan is a wonderful young man and it is unfortunate he is missing today and tomorrow. He has done a lot of schooling work on him. He's a proper horse - he's from the Shuil (Sharp) family and they have to be six (years old). He's a big, long Scorpion and needs time. He'll go to Listowel.
A day to remember for Kelly with Downpatrick brace
We'll have to go to Tramore on Thursday before the handicapper gets a hold of us now!. He's improving all the time and he is going well. I still think he is a better horse over fences than over hurdles - he's a savage jumper over fences and travels that well over fences. I'll be in Spain on Thursday but I'll be able to watch it!. It was the first time ever I had a double - I had a double one day with a point-to-point winner and a track winner but I never had a track double.
Soldiers concludes Downpatrick action with a bang
