Buckaroo kicks on in Ballybrit
Sherkin Island delivers for Weld and Keane
She did it nicely. She ran a lovely race at the Curragh first time out and she's progressed nicely, but she's still a very immature filly and we won't see the best of her until next year. We'll hasten slowly and see how she progresses. She's a filly I'll look forward to next year over 10 furlongs. Please God there will be plenty more days to come with her.
Slattery boots home landmark victory on Dedillon
We probably rode her too far back in Gowran the last day,. She shouldn't have been 20/1 today though. She has form with the two favourites all year and was probably better off at the weights today. It's grand to have a winner in Galway. She's a great filly to have. She was running for the 20th time when winning in Dundalk but that's her third win now. We'll step her up in class now off a light weight and see how we get on there.
Kaaranah makes Ballybrit breakthrough
We're very pleased with that. Seamie (Heffernan) got him into a lovely rhythm, had a nice position throughout, and he stayed at it well. He said he'd have no problem going up a couple of furlongs, he seemed to stay very well. He's only had a few runs, and he's a big raw horse, so he should stay improving. Hopefully he's a nice one for the future.
Front-running strategy pays off for Nectaris
She was good. The little bit of an ease in the ground helped her. Tipperary was very quick and she was like a cat on a hot tin roof down there (when third in a four-runner race). Shane said he'd like her to relax a bit more but she is a forward-going filly. She did that well. I'd say she'll step up into a Listed race and maybe she'll get a mile. Running down the hill here she was tanking with Shane and then she got to the straight and was having a good look around. A bit more dig in the ground will suit her.
Cool And Clever now two from three
Joyce lands feature on Crowns Major
It was a brilliant performance, especially from Wesley here in Galway around a tricky track in a big handicap like that. He was very cool on him and we're delighted. The trip (an extended mile and three furlongs) was definitely a worry but to be fair they went such a slow gallop in the two-mile the other night, and he was keen, that may as well have been a mile-and-a-half race. It was a huge pot, a great race, and if you're not in it you can't win it. That's a great big pot to get with a horse like that. The little foray to Japan is paying off in spades now!. It was only his first ever run in a handicap on Tuesday night and I'd say the experience and everything stood to him. He was actually only 2 kilos lighter coming here today so it didn't knock a funk out of him. It was always the plan to target these premier handicaps with him, the November Handicap, the Cesarewitch and the likes. He's an exciting horse going forward.
Whearty seen to good effect on Dazzling Darren
That was great. It was very difficult from that draw and in fairness he got out well and went forward. It worked out great,. Robert is a good young lad and his 10lb is valuable in these types of handicaps. I'm delighted for his owner Darren Cahill, he'd love having a winner here.
