"Grown up" Upazo does the business
He seems to have grown up a bit since last year when he disappointed me. His work had shown that he's improved. I think he has grown and maybe he was growing a bit last year. He's physically bigger. We did a good bit of work with him just ten days ago and we thought he was a different horse than last year. He's come and shown that on the racecourse. He's big enough and will jump a fence some day but we'll pursue a novice hurdle campaign for the time being.
Smashing Irish debut for Potts' purchase
It's a nice performance. It's his first time on that type of ground as he's been running on heavy ground in France but we thought he would go well on the drier ground based on his homework. We bought him as a chaser but I saw this race and decided to start him off here to see what we have. He might continue at this job as I've a lot of beginner chasers to come out. I'll talk to the owners to see what direction they want to go. He'll need to improve his jumping technique. He was a bit ring-rusty early having run in two chases in France. On his work at home he'd have no trouble going further and he's a horse with a lot of experience.
Padraig back on the right road
I'm delighted and a super man (Barry Connell) owns him. He's a lovely big horse and we've always liked him. He ran a lovely race when he won (at Limerick) last year but he's needed all the time he's got since. Things just didn't go the right way for him after he won.
Stamina proves the key for Foxrock
Coat leaves connections in the Pink
He's gone up a stone since he won at Listowel. He got 9lb for winning at Listowel and bits and pieces for being placed since. I thought he'd gone up too much, and this was a different class today. Bryan came in after Naas (2m4f) and said he'd love to ride him in a strongly run two-mile race. It worked!. He'd need to improve but we might look at the Boylesports.com Handicap Hurdle at Leopardstown in January.
Townend times it to perfection
We weren't expecting it as we thought he'd need the run but I've been preaching to the owner for a while now that Paul Townend is the man for this horse. He has to come with a run and time it to the exact beat. Nobody can do it better than Paul, and he produced him just right today.
Hill completes Mullins treble in bumper
That was good for a four-year-old having his second run in a month, and I was very impressed with him. I was surprised with myself running him twice in a month but I'll mind him now. He looked very, very good. Patrick thought he was even better on the better ground. That bodes well aiming for March.
