Weld & Smullen win Leopardstown's opener
she did what we expected and she’s a nice filly for next year. The second is a nice filly and this is always a good race - it generally takes a stakes filly to win a maiden this. She ran very well at the Curragh when fourth and I see her as a stakes filly for next year and seven or mile looks her trip. She’s not short of pace, always travelled easily and will come back for one of the Guineas trials. She’s a gorgeous big filly and she’s all class.
Cliffs Of Moher wins smartly for Ballydoyle
Blue-blooded Browning makes breakthrough
Sovereign Debt wins Knockaire Stakes again
he seems to like it here and the ground was lovely for him, as he just likes to get his toe in. He retains plenty enthusiasm even though he’s rising eight next year and he felt good today and I was always happy. I was able to use Michael O’Callaghan’s horse (Blue De Vega) as a lead horse and I just went by him easy. He idled a little bit but I pulled my stick into my left hand and it was never in doubt. He’s a gorgeous horse to ride, he’s a push button job. He lobs there on a long rein and doesn’t overdo it and when you ask him to pick up, he does plenty.
Bolger's Dubai Sand wins Eyrefield Stakes
he’s a nice staying two-year-old and is basically a middle distance horse, so it’s good that he could do that over a mile on goodish ground as we have something to play with. We were restricted in the latter part of the season with going and were finding it hard to get good ground and with all due respect to Dundalk, we didn’t want to go on the sand. Hopefully he’ll be back here for the Derrinstown Trial.
Golden Spear wins November Handicap
it’s great to get the opportunity from Tony - I was talking to him last night and he filled me with loads of confidence. He told me to ride him for luck and if it happens, it happens. In fairness he had the horse turned out perfectly for today and it worked out brilliant. When you are riding for Tony is those big handicaps, he is the man to go to. I was delighted to get the ride and thanks to my agent Ciaran O’Toole who got me on him, it was a great ride to get. It’s special to win it at the end of the season - it caps it and it was badly wanted.
Prendergast's 'star' Vastonea wins again
we’ll give him (Vastonea) a break for the winter now. He’s a right old horse and pays his way and has won two Topaz Miles (at Galway) and was third in another. He has won over €240,000 now and he’s a star in our place and everyone’s favourite. we’ve had a good season and while I didn’t have that many horses, they all performed well. Aneen is a very nice filly and hopefully if everything goes right she’ll make a nice three-year-old. She’ll probably start off in one of the Guineas trials and hopefully progress from there.
Bolger & Manning win flat finale
he was a long time off and I was hoping he wouldn’t blow up when he hit the front. This has been a lucky race for us.
