Tarn over turns the hotpot Intensified
She's been going nicely at home and she quickened up well. Bolger's horse looked hard to beat beforehand but I would have been disappointed if we weren't at least second. Hopefully she will come out of this well and we might look at something like the Anglessey Stakes.
Limonade takes Listed honours
He is tough and very like his daddy. He is getting better with age. He likes fast ground and a mile and a quarter is no problem for him. We will look for a Group race for him now.
Majestic is Queen of the fillies
I'm absolutely delighted as it's the race I had in mind for her from early in the year and it's not too often that a plan like that comes off. She's a class filly. Dad (Con Collins) farmed this race over the years, I think he won it six times. Sheena (sister) won it as well, so it makes it all the more special. You have to have a proper filly to win it and hopefully she will progress. She was a bit slow to come to hand earlier in the year and Michael gave her a super ride.
Well-fancied Boats takes the Sprint
The horses are in great order at the moment. The fellow is owned by David Spratt who is a good pal of mine but he is not too well at the moment, so this is a good tonic for him. We knew we wouldn't get into the big races at Royal Ascot with him so we decided to aim him at this. He can go anywhere from six furlongs to a mile. The penny has not really dropped with him and he will learn a lot from today. He he has little or no racing done.
Progressive Sudirman wins the Railway
He did it well. He is a bit of a slow learner but he is getting better with every run and he was going away at the line. Maybe a step up to seven furlongs won't do him any harm. Wayne gave him a good ride. I'll have to speak to the owners about where he will go next. They were thinking about Goodwood but he is a Group 2 winner now so we may have to think again.
Treble for Lordan as Slade powers to victory
That is a bit special as the owners (the Power family) also bred him. He is a bit like his trainer in that he has taken a while to mature and get his act together. He is still a big raw horse and he is learning about racing. We will look at the July Cup for him now. He will probably wear the blue cap (Sole Power is also likely to take his chance in that race). He broke his pelvis at Ascot last year and he had to spend three months over there recovering. Full credit to everyone concerned as they did a great with him.
Bolger ends O'Brien's Derby domination
I was a bit afraid that I had hit the front too soon but he gallops and has pace. It means an awful lot to me. I thought it was a race that was going to get away. New Approach was pulled out twenty-four hours before it with an injury and Teofilo also missed it. Everything went to according to plan. We were hoping we'd get a nice pace and to just drop in behind them. He settled very well and we always knew that he would get the trip. It is probably a career topping day and it doesn't really get any better than this. I was very pleased with his run in the Dante as we didn't have a good run with him up to that. We got a bit side-tracked with the Guineas here and if nothing else we made it a good pace. He would have went to Epsom had Dawn Approach not been there. He needs a good strong gallop and we weren't sure about the stamina of Dawn Approach so it didn't make sense running the two of them in it. We will have to think about where we will go with him next but we need to be careful about the going as he likes nice underfoot conditions.
Domination bounces back to form
He loves that ground, the firmer the better. The last time he got his ground was at Newmarket (last September). He probably has only got his ground twice in two years. He didn't jump bad the last day and we might consider the Galway Hurdle although he probably needs two and half or even three miles over hurdles.
