An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference on the run to the line when the winner, Monsieur Lecoq (FR), ridden by Chester Williams, interfered with Le Prezien (FR), placed second, ridden by Barry Geraghty.
The Stewards considered that the interference had not improved Monsieur Lecoq (FR)’s placing as Le Prezien (FR) appeared to lose no momentum or ground as a result of the interference and Geraghty never had to stop riding, before being beaten by a short head.
The interference was found to be accidental as Monsieur Lecoq (FR) had edged marginally right-handed despite Williams’ best efforts to correct the gelding, resulting in Le Prezien (FR) receiving a slight nudge.
Following the race, Micheal Nolan reported that Beltor (GB), unplaced, ran too freely.
