Bolving (IRE), placed fourth, did not enter the winner’s enclosure on veterinary advice due to having bled from the nose.
An enquiry was held to consider whether Henry Platt, the rider of Ballyknock Cloud (IRE), which fell at the final fence, had continued in the race when the gelding seemed to be tired and had appeared to refuse at the final fence.
The rider was interviewed and recordings of the incident were viewed.
The rider’s explanation that he felt the gelding had sufficient impetus to jump the fence but had run around on the approach to it and slipped a couple of strides from the obstacle, causing Ballyknock Cloud (IRE) to land on the fence and fall, was accepted.
Being a 10lb claimer, Platt was offered the opportunity to have someone accompany him in the enquiry, but declined.
The performance of Cucklington (GB), which started second favourite and finished sixth, was considered.
The representative of Colin Tizzard could offer no explanation for the gelding’s performance.
