Critic shows class in Naas opener
He’d a good run the first day but he’s a lazy horse at home so its hard to know how he’s going. Niall McCullagh likes him and rode him work one morning and said ‘this lad goes well and handles soft ground well’. When we worked him the other morning I said has he improved at all but ours usually improve from their first run to their second run. Ben said he’s very professional, very genuine and should get a mile and a quarter next year. He’s by Night Of Thunder, a good sire, and we’ll put him away and hope he’s a stakes horse next year.

Glamorously lunges late to land Birdcatcher
She battled the last day and she really battled today. She was under pressure a long way out. Blinkers have made a big difference to her. She seems to be one of those tough Mehmas’ that just love it. We’ll see if there is another nursery for her and judging by that she will go seven. She needed every yard of it today.

Stag strikes on softer ground
He’s a grand horse and wins one every year. He’s just had problems with his feet. We had special shoes on him in Gowran and Billy just felt he wasn’t moving well and couldn’t grip the ground. He’s probably sore on the hard ground and more comfortable on his feet on that ground.
