Carlos on the way back
we thought Carloswayback was a good horse over hurdles but his form got progressively worse and his later runs were terrible. He got a fall in a graded hurdle which looked a simple at the time but didn't turn out to be simple.
Jim motoring along nicely
that was a surprise - he disappointed over Christmas, probably the trip (2m4f) wasn't ideal. The blinkers he had on today were actually a mistake as I meant to put cheek-pieces on when I was declaring him - it's a pity he isn't entered in the Thyestes but we'll find another nice staying chase for him soon.
Russell made work on 'lazy' Ipsos
I was a little disappointed with the way he travelled through the race but he is dog lazy. Davy said they went very fast, he's only a novice so I thought it was a very good performance. He wants three miles and maybe a bit faster ground and should learn a lot from today. I blame myself for his Thurles defeat as he was running back a bit too quick. He ran a good race at Navan and came home well but won't run for a while now as he has had a hard race there on heavy ground. He'll get an entry for the 3m novice hurdle at Cheltenham.
Sivola secures second Irish win
Ut De Sivola's better jumping won it for him. He was very keen early on and got caught on the outside. I'm hoping he'll improve from that and we'll probably look to run him again on Hennessy day . the experience will do him no harm.
Joxer gets the rub of the green!
he's not too bad and Bryan (Cooper) said there's plenty more to come. He's still very green but has loads of ability. I was a bit cocky going to Leopardstown with him and he wasn't as well tuned up as he should have been. There is plenty of time to make plans and if I to my local pub tonight they'll all be telling me what to do with him!
Paco Jack rolls back the years
Paco Jack had everything wrong with him and came to me 18 months ago. He has been a write off on a number of occasions but the owner (Christopher Beirne) has a real love for him and has been fantastically patient. He had holes in both two hind suspensory ligaments, had two wind operations and bled as well.
Mighty bumper winner
he was entitled to win that and we'll take it easy with him for a while now. He'll probably have one more run in a bumper but he's more of a jumper. Katie (Walsh) likes him, Tom Doyle rode him work recently and said he'd like nice ground but I'd say he'd go on any as it was horrible out there today.
