An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Billy Roberts (IRE), ridden by Miss Stephanie Jardebeck and trained by Simon Whitaker, which was held up before running on strongly to finish second, beaten by 5 lengths.

The rider was interviewed and shown recordings of the race.

The rider stated her instructions were to get cover early on before making her challenge from 2 furlongs out.

Miss Jardebeck’s explanation that she had delayed her challenge as long as possible due to the stiff track, and the rain softened good ground also adding that ideally she would have liked to have made her challenge earlier but had been held up briefly 2 ½ furlongs out by Esticky End (IRE) was noted.

An enquiry was held to consider the circumstances surrounding a member of the ground-staff being on the racing line in Race 1 approximately 1 mile out and whom was very late to react as the field approached.

Having heard evidence from Miss Becky Smith, the rider of Myboymax (FR), who was leading the field at the time and the Clerk of the Course, a report was forwarded to the Head Office of the BHA for further consideration.

The performance of Saulire Star (IRE), placed sixth, was considered.

Tim Easterby reported that the filly was never travelling and the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination, during routine testing, failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Following the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race endoscopic examination revealed Gulf Of Poets (GB), unplaced, to have bled.
