S.W. Flanagan, rider of Impact Player, trained by R.P. McNamara, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount burst blood vessels and pulled up. The Stewards informed Gerard Quirk, trainer of Earthly Reason, that a repeat of this horse's unruly behaviour in the parade ring and at the start may render this horse liable to a suspension in future. The Stewards interviewed D.F. O'Regan, rider of Harold Peto, concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards found D.F. O'Regan in breach of Reg. 10. 3.(a) (down shoulder in forehand) and having taken his clean record into account, the Stewards cautioned him.
