An enquiry was held following a report from the Clerk of the Scales that Tom Buckley, the rider of Kenny George (GB), placed fifth, had failed to weigh in after Race 3.
Buckley and the Clerk of the Scales were interviewed.
Buckley explained that after jumping the final hurdle he felt his mount tiring and therefore felt it prudent to ease his mount and complete the course at a walk.
He added that on returning to the Scales he reported that he had pulled up and was consequently not asked to weigh in, however as Kenny George (GB) had completed the course mounted, it was deemed to have finished and placed fifth.
Having heard their evidence and viewed the recordings of the race, the Stewards accepted Buckley’s explanation and being satisfied that the correct weight had been carried throughout the race, they confirmed the placing of Kenny George (GB).
Following the race, Sheena West reported that Kenny George (GB), placed fifth, was unsuited by the going on this occasion, which was officially described as Soft, Heavy in places, and would prefer a slower surface.
