Smullen rides 1st winner for former Champion
'Fear of Aidan' helps Mulvany win Again!
we were toying all week with whether we'd go to the mile-and-a-half race or this one and I just decided to keep away from Aidan O'Brien (who had entered, and runs, Air Supremacy)!. I wasn't worried about his speed for this trip as he has plenty of pace and we'll probably go to Galway now for a handicap. The long-term plan is the Lartigue Hurdle at Listowel and you won't see him over hurdles till then - we’ll tick along on the Flat. He handles all types of ground, is a nice classy kind of a horse and is a lovely big horse. I think we won't see the best of him until he starts jumping fences - he’s practically 17 hands.
Allography off to sales after Bellewstown win
He's a very consistent horse and I thought Conor gave him a lovely ride,. He got him into a lovely rhythm which is important around here to get them balanced. He took a valuable 5lb off him. He's in the July Sales next week. He's been a good servant to us and I'm sure he'll be as good to the next person. He's a lovely solid horse, dead genuine and tries hard. That is a good trip and ground for him. He's straight-forward to train. He's been very good to us. I think Conor is a very good rider and great value for his 5lb. It's just hard to give everyone opportunities and it's nice to get him another winner.
Cloudy Miss scores for Halford/Foley
it's nice to get a bracket with her as she's a nicely bred filly and the penny is only really starting to drop with her now. She's getting stronger and knowing how to race, is well balanced and knew her job; Shane (Foley) kept it simple. I'm delighted to win a race for John (Connaughton, owner) who has had a few horses with us. It's always good to get a winner for him and she's a home-bred filly. We'll see what the handicapper does with her. You'd hope now that she's got her head in front that she'd keep going on. She's a very straight-forward and sound filly so there is plenty of racing in her for the summer.
Rose gains deserved success
She's a model of consistency and had been banging on the door for the last two year with unlucky stories and bad draws,. She had another bad draw here this evening but Pat gave her a phenomenal ride. He dropped her in, gave her a chance, and she came home well. The ground here is a credit to Bellewstown and they always turn out super ground. The atmosphere is top class and it's a super meeting. She's five but she hasn't had a lot of racing as she hasn't been the easiest to train. The handicapper hasn't missed her but he'll say tonight wasn't he right. She tries very hard and she'll always give you 200 percent. That's my first winner of the season but my horses have actually been running well and finishing second and third.
Zanjabeel wins for Elliott/McDonogh
Gordon said just don't get there too soon but he battled well when he got over the road.
Lyons junior rides first winner at Bellewstown
that's very special. You just want them back in one piece but it's nice to be able to give her a winner as she does a lot at home and is a good worker. She has just got her degree in business studies. We didn't expect to win - I knew I'd given her a nice ride around but it's one thing expecting and another thing doing it!. She rides plenty of work at home with Colin and all the jockeys and she's a good rider, and a good event rider, but she hasn't the experience on the race track. Going out there is a different story but she did everything perfectly and she kept her head. Unfortunately for the horse he's just earned himself another race next weekend but we'll give him a good holiday after that. If he gives her a good spin in that Ladies Derby we'll be over the moon and that's a bonus tonight. He's a nice horse for those events and will give her a good spin. I don't have many horses for her as I don't have any bumper horses but she can ride and hopefully after a couple of rides like that, it'll enlighten a few lads and she might get some outside rides. She's already a better jockey than her father and her uncle (Shane Lyons, the trainer’s assistant)!
